The ceremony commemorating World Red Cross Day 2026 was held this morning at the headquarters of the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) in Nay Pyi Taw. Attendees included Union Minister for Health Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win, Deputy Minister Professor Dr. Aye Tun, directors-general from the Ministry of Health and related ministries, officials from the Myanmar Veterans Organization, MRCS President Professor Dr. Myo Nyunt, Vice President Dr. Daw Tin Tin Lay and executive members, representatives from partner organizations, members of the Red Cross Central Council, Outstanding Red Cross awardees, representatives from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), as well as representatives from partner National Red Cross Societies and social organizations.
First, the Union Minister delivered opening remarks, followed by commemorative remarks from MRCS President Professor Dr. Myo Nyunt. Commemorative videos for World Red Cross Day and a documentary video on the Basic Search and Rescue Training for First Responders were then screened.
Red Cross Model awardees from the Union Territory of Nay Pyi Taw for the year 2025 were presented with awards by the Union Minister, Deputy Minister, MRCS President, and distinguished guests. After the ceremony, the Union Minister, Deputy Minister, and guests viewed the World Red Cross Day commemorative exhibition.
The second session of the ceremony continued with congratulatory remarks delivered by Ms. Nadia KHOURY, Head of Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and Mr. Arnaud de BAECQ UE, Head of Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
Responsible officials then presented honorary awards and distinguished medals to Red Cross members who had completed 65 years of service and to recipients of the State Social Excellence Medal for 2025–2026.
World Red Cross Day ceremonies were held simultaneously not only at the MRCS headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw but also across states and regions. During these ceremonies, recipients of the 2025 Red Cross Model Awards were presented with commemorative badges and certificates of honor.
In addition, 68 Red Cross volunteers attended the Basic Search and Rescue Training for First Responder conducted at the Central Fire Services Training School under the Fire Services Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs, enabling them to carry out search and rescue operations alongside first aid activities.
