The handover ceremony of the new office building of the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) Mandalay Region Red Cross Supervisory Committee was held on the morning of 14 May at the newly constructed building in Mandalay.
The ceremony was attended by the Mandalay Region Minister for Social Affairs, Dr. Hla Kyaw; members of the regional parliament; MRCS President Professor Dr. Myo Nyunt; Vice President Dr. Tin Tin Lay and Executive Committee members; Deputy Secretary General; Assistant Secretary General; and other officials. Also present were the Chairman of the Mandalay Region Red Cross Supervisory Committee, Dr. Thein Tun Saung, and committee members; representatives from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC); the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC); partner National Societies; invited guests; township Red Cross branches; and Red Cross volunteers.
The ceremony began with the cutting of the ribbon by the Regional Minister for Social Affairs, the MRCS President, the Chairman of the Regional Red Cross Supervisory Committee, and an ICRC representative, officially opening the new building. This was followed by a commemorative ritual, where scented water was sprinkled on the building plaque.
The program continued with opening remarks from the Regional Minister for Social Affairs, followed by a speech from the MRCS President. The ICRC Head of Delegation, Mr. Arnaud de Baecque, then explained the purpose and background of the construction of the new office building.
The new building was formally handed over to MRCS, after which the President expressed words of appreciation and presented a letter of acknowledgement.
The Mandalay Region Red Cross Supervisory Committee office is a three-storey building measuring 40 feet by 60 feet. The land and building were generously donated by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
