Health Care

The promotion of health care is a key activity of the Myanmar Red Cross Society. MRCS currently implements 15 projects and programmes in 115 townships across the country with the support of several partners comprising IFRC, Korean Red Cross, Swedish Red Cross, Finnish Red Cross, Cartier Foundation, Samsung, Bright Foundation, ICRC, Global Funds, Danish Red Cross, DRC-3MDG, Consodium and EU, Australian Red Cross and UN agencies such as WHO, UNOPS, UNICEF and UNFPA. These projects and programmes provide one or more of the following interventions:

  • Public health in emergences – this includes Water and Sanitation, as well as Psychosocial support interventions
  • Community-based health with integrated approaches which includes prevention of malaria, TB and HIV
  • Reproductive health
  • Community-based health and First Aid
  • Voluntary non-remunerated blood donors recruitment
  • Maternal, new-born and child health
  • Outreach prosthetic activities

In 2013-2015, a total of 317,561 vulnerable people were reached through health and care interventions, with the support of 3709 trained Red Cross volunteers.
