The Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) continues to support the recovery and rehabilitation of communities affected by the Mandalay earthquake. From 21 to 25 September 2026, MRCS provided the first instalment of cash assistance to eligible households in Yamethin, Pyawbwe and Thazi Townships, Mandalay Region, to support their livelihood activities. Professor Dr. Daw Yi Yi Tin, Executive Committee Member of MRCS, and other officials visited the areas to observe and support the assistance activities.

A total of 724 eligible households received the first instalment of livelihood assistance. This included 199 households in Yamethin Township, 265 households in Pyawbwe Township, and 260 households in Thazi Township. Each household received MMK 1,050,000, representing 70% of the total livelihood grant of MMK 1.5 million, with a total of MMK 208,950,525 provided to the 724 households.

Prior to the distribution, MRCS conducted field assessments in the communities to identify eligible households based on their living conditions, in coordination with community committees. The list of selected households was then publicly announced in accessible locations in accordance with the established selection criteria before the assistance was provided.

With support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the German Red Cross, MRCS staff and local Red Cross volunteers delivered the assistance directly to eligible households.

As part of the livelihood support for people affected by the severe earthquake, each eligible household is entitled to a total grant of MMK 1.5 million, provided in two instalments. The first instalment, equivalent to 70% (MMK 1.05 million), has now been provided, while the remaining 30% (MMK 450,000) will be provided as the second instalment.
