Yangon, March 28, 2026.

The Unity in Action Ceremony to commemorate the (1st) anniversary of the Mandalay Earthquake was held at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in Yangon on the evening of March 28. First, a minute of silence was observed to mourn the loss of life and damage caused by the Mandalay Earthquake.

Then, the President of the Myanmar Red Cross Society, Professor Dr. Myo Nyunt, delivered a speech, followed by the Head of Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Ms. Nadia Khoury, and the Head of Programs & Prevention of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mr. Xavier Collard de Macquerh.

Next, Executive Professor Dr. Tin Maung Hlaing explained the earthquake response and recovery efforts during the year. Videos of the cooperation with partner Red Cross societies and the support of volunteers were shown.

Then, Vice President Dr. Daw Tin Tin Lay, Executive Professor Dr. Tin Maung Hlaing, and Professor Dr. Daw Yi Yi Tin presented certificates of appreciation to (15) Red Cross volunteers who participated in the earthquake response and rehabilitation work.

The ceremony was attended by Vice President Dr. Daw Tin Tin Lay and executives, chairmen and officials of the Region/State Red Cross Supervisory Committees, Deputy Secretaries General, Assistant Secretaries General and Directors, officials from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross and partner Red Cross societies, Red Cross volunteers, local and international donors, and invited guests.
