Myanmar Red Cross Society continues search and rescue, and providing support in Hpakant Landslide

Subsistence miners who have been lost in the waves caused by soft landslide in Wai Khar Village, Seit Mu Village Tract, Hpakant Township, Kachin State at 2nd July, 2020, it is reported that 163 dead bodies and 43 injured persons were found until 9:00 a.m. July 3rd, 2020.

With Kachin Red Cross Supervisory Committee and Hpakhant Township Red Cross Branch are close coordination with Respective Departments and Civil Society Organizations, 55 Red Cross Volunteers from Hpakant Red Cross Branch have been doing the activities of search and rescue and providing first aid to injured persons, and referral them to general hospitals in Hpakant and Myitkyina Township.

In conducting search and rescue activities, hand-made rafts and boats are being utilized mainly. Although the rain has stopped for the time being, search and rescue work have to be done with great care as further landslides can cause.

MRCS have been planning to distribute Individual Hygiene Kits for 43 injured miners and to provide humanitarian aid to families of the deceased.
